NO LIMITS CAFE TRAINING PROGRAM IS TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR 2024
The 1st Suzanne Hatfield No Limits Cafe Training class has successfully completed in November 2022. We are so proud of our 5 graduates and are working with them on finding meaningful employment!
We are currently accepting applications for our 2024 10-week paid training programs to help additional adults with intellectual disabilities find meaningful employment and lead productive, successful lives. It is imperative that we substantially lower that 80% unemployment rate in Monmouth County, NJ for this underserved population.Thank you Suzanne Hatfield, a No Limits Cafe benefactor, for helping us to continue to change the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities.
The desired goal is to place all of our trainees in jobs, collaborating with employers to ensure success.
Dana and John Crawford’s son Kane is the youngest of four boys. She knew there was a good possibility that he would have Down syndrome before he was born, but that did not change anything for Dana and her family. Kane is now 4 years old, and Dana looks to places like No Limits Cafe as hope for Kane’s future.
Because of your support, the Crawfords, like many other area families, now have hope for their child’s future. Thankyou for affording families of adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to learn new skills and to be engaged in significant and meaningful employment.
“Places like No Limits Cafe help me show the world all the things I already know about my son Kane and everything he will do. There are no limits.”
Dana Marie Crawford
We dreamed of and then opened No Limits Cafe because 80% of adults with intellectual disabilities are unemployed. Your support is changing this statistic, and offering hope – one person at a time!
“Thanks to amazing places like No Limits Cafe, we can destroy outdated perceptions and limitations that exist just because of an extra chromosome.”
Dana & John Crawford
Now is the time to say Thank you… we are so grateful!
We have had an absolutely amazing year of support, kindness, and unexpected offerings, and we would like to thank all of those that provided these gifts to benefit No Limits Cafe. It would not be possible to be opening the Cafe without the generosity of time, talent, and resources of the many people.
80% of people with Intellectual Disabilities are NOT employed...
Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities want to work as much as the general population. All too often, when they ask “Will you hire me?” The answer is “no.” It creates the perception that somehow people wth disabilities can’t compete, cannot hold down a job, are not worthy of the same protections all other organizations are,” says Clyde Terry, who chairs the National Council on Disability, an independent federal agency that makes recommendations to the federal government on policy issues affecting people with disabilities. “Which is really contrary to what the Americans With Disabilities Act is all about: That we all should be able to be treated equally”
We plan on hiring 20-25 people with Intellectual Disabilities.
Very few restaurants hire employees with Intellectual Disabilities...
After our initial goal of hiring 20-25 people with Intellectual Disabilities, we will provide focused training programs, as a way of increasing the chances of long-term employment in area restaurants.
Many employees with Intellectual Disabilities that are employed, are paid below minimum wage...
Many of those that are employed, are paid below minimum wage because they work in state or federally sheltered workshops. Under a 1986 exemption to the Fair Labor Standards Act, current law allows employers to pay less to workers with disabilities if they can’t perform a job as well as a person who is not disabled. Our employees will be paid minimum wage, with potential for growth.
Employ 30-35 adults with Intellectual Disabilities
Pay everyone minimum wage
